I am such a greedy reader, my house is FULL of books and my TBR pile never seems to get any smaller no matter how fast I read!
I’ve just finished:
Teri Terry’s Contagion – Teri comes up with some great concepts , from kids who’ve had their minds wiped to worlds where people interact in virtual space as if it were reality. This is the first of a new trilogy with a fresh take on an epidemic that is sweeping the country. I read it so fast and the cliffhanger at the end…aaargh!!!!!
Jonathan Stroud, The Screaming Staircase. I would never have picked this book up – I had a flirtation with horror books when I was a teenager that left me sleepless for months but, I’m doing an event with Jonathan this year, so I thought I better get to know his work. Wow! I absolutely love it! I’ll definitely be reading more of Lockwood & Co., ghost hunters.
Eve Ainsworth, Damage. I’ve read Eve’s other books and really like the broad way she looks at difficult subjects. I know this won’t be an easy read but I always feel like I’ve deepened my well of empathy after reading one of her books – in difficult times, that’s not a bad thing.
Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me. I was in New York for a few days and even though my luggage was full and I had vowed NO MORE BOOKS would be taken home to England, when I heard Tahereh speak at the SCBWI Winter Conference, I couldn’t help myself. She was so engaging and clearly a writer of talent that I’d never read so . . . I bought Shatter Me and an extra suitcase. Good thing too, I accidentally went shopping. Macy’s sale!!!
Robin Talley, As I Descended. I have a book buddy – I lend her stuff I think she’ll like, and she trades me back. I loaned her Lies We Tell Ourselves and she loved it so much she bought all of Robin’s books and has loaned me this one back. I can’t wait to read it!
Keep up with Kathryn Evans and all of her happenings, here.
